High Precision Bearings – The Core of Rotating Machinery

For bearing applications, rolling elements are the heart of every rotating machine. Deep groove ball bearings, angular contact bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, and tapered roller bearings all use steel balls or rollers as their load-carrying interface. In high precision bearings, rolling elements determine rotational accuracy, speed capability, and service life.

JSW provides high precision steel balls, rollers, and needles used for various bearing productions. Chrome steel is the most used material for this application, demonstrating high hardness, resistance to deformation, and excellent wear characteristics for maximum strength and service life. This material is known as 52100 steel in the US, 100Cr6 in Europe, SUJ2 in Japan, and GCr15 in China. Bearing balls are manufactured from the highest quality material and provided through-hardened.

Additionally, JSW manufactures bearing-grade steel balls (G10-G100) and rollers with tight tolerances, suitable for machine tool spindles, electric motors, and robotics. Our rolling elements are compatible with major bearing standards including ISO 3290 e ASTM F2215.

Caster Production

In the caster industry, rolling elements ensure smooth mobility for furniture, medical equipment, and industrial carts. Casters typically use hardened steel balls or cylindrical rollers in the swivel head and wheel bearings. Moreover, these rolling elements must resist shock loads, dirt, and moisture.

JSW provides AISI 1015 low carbon steel, AISI 420 stainless steel balls, and POM balls for the caster production industry. Steel balls are used in the main load bearing of the caster—the row of steel balls or rollers that swivels the horn base in relation to the mounting plate of a swivel caster, counteracting direct thrust. Balls manufactured in low carbon steel are adapted for low load and walking speed applications, while stainless steel balls are suitable for high speed and abusive applications such as side-impact loading and heavy loads.

JSW supplies case-hardened steel balls and stainless steel rollers for caster wheels, ensuring quiet operation and long service life. Balls supplied by JSW can be mounted on casters of various sizes, assuring long life and dependability of your products. For instance, heavy-duty casters for warehouse equipment may use larger cylindrical rollers to support high static loads.

Linear Motion Guides

For linear motion systems, rolling elements enable low-friction, high-accuracy linear movement. Linear motion guide systems use recirculating steel balls or rollers to achieve smooth translation with minimal wear. These guides are essential for CNC machine tools, robotic arms, pick-and-place systems, and measuring instruments.

JSW provides high-precision steel balls and rollers for linear motion guides. An LM guide provides linear motion by recirculating rolling elements between a profiled rail and a bearing block. Its internal balls or rollers minimize friction, allowing the block to travel along the rail smoothly. The coefficient of friction of an LM guide is only 1/50 compared to a traditional slide.

The common sizes of steel balls used in linear guides are 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 5/16″, 15/32″ and rollers: 3×2.8, 3.22×4, 4.53×5.5, and more. JSW manufactures balls and rollers of standard size or according to your drawings, providing products with high precision and great moving accuracy. Properly selected rolling elements eliminate stick-slip and ensure positional repeatability.

Cosmetics & Personal Care Packaging

In cosmetics packaging, rolling elements must operate in clean and sometimes corrosive environments. Filling machines, capping stations, labeling systems, and conveyor belts use stainless steel balls and plastic rollers. In these applications, rolling elements must resist washdown chemicals, humidity, and occasional contact with cosmetic ingredients.

JSW provides the cosmetic and personal care industry with highly technical and well-tested balls, including AISI 302, AISI 304, and AISI 304-L unhardened austenitic stainless steel balls which display good mechanical characteristics, toughness, and corrosion resistance. AISI 304L provides lower carbon content, while AISI 302 offers better mechanical characteristics. All balls are provided annealed and passivated.

The most common cosmetic applications include:

  • Agitator balls for eyeliner
  • Stainless steel balls as nail polish mixing beads
  • Balls in trigger sprayers, finger and lotion pumps, soap dispensers, micro-valves for atomizers
  • Balls as check valve balls
  • Balls for aerosol pumps and valves
  • Balls for roll-on lipsticks and lip moisturizers

JSW offers 304 and 316 stainless steel balls, as well as engineering plastic balls (polyurethane, POM) that are non-corrosive and non-magnetic. These rolling elements ensure smooth, reliable operation of high-speed packaging lines producing shampoo, lotion, lipstick, and other personal care items.

Ball Pen Point

For ball pen points, miniature rolling elements are used in one of the most ubiquitous applications. The tiny tungsten carbide or stainless steel ball at the tip of a ballpoint pen is a precision rolling element. In this application, the steel ball rotates freely in its socket, picking up ink and transferring it evenly onto paper.

JSW manufactures miniature steel balls down to 0.5 mm diameter, with exceptional sphericity and surface finish. These balls are also used in rollerball pens, cosmetic applicators, and certain medical spray devices. Despite their small size, these rolling elements require the same rigorous quality control as industrial bearings.

Energia eólica

In wind power applications, rolling elements support massive rotors and must withstand extreme loads and harsh outdoor conditions. Wind turbines rely on large rolling elements in their main shaft bearings, yaw bearings, and pitch bearings. These applications demand extremely high load capacity, fatigue resistance, and long service life.

JSW provides large diameter high carbon chrome steel balls for the wind power industry. The steel ball for windmill bearing is generally in the range of Φ 45-80mm, used for yaw bearings and pitch bearings. Windmill bearings are required to last more than 20 years as the working environment is tough and maintenance costs are very high. Therefore, windmill bearings have strict quality requirements on steel balls.

High carbon chromium steel 100CrMn6 and 100CrMnSi6-4 refer to the high carbon alloy steel with 1.30-1.65% chromium, which have high stress fatigue strength, good size stability, and abrasion resistance. These balls are designed to be more durable than conventional chrome steel balls. Furthermore, JSW supplies large-diameter cylindrical rollers and steel balls (often >50 mm) that meet the strict cleanliness and hardness requirements of wind turbine bearing manufacturers. Properly manufactured rolling elements contribute to reduced downtime and lower maintenance costs for renewable energy installations.

Universal Drive Line

For universal drive lines—found in trucks, tractors, off-highway vehicles, and industrial equipment—rolling elements are essential in universal joints, slip splines, and centre bearings. Needle rollers are particularly common in cardan joints, where they allow angular misalignment while transmitting torque.

JSW has supplied rolling elements for the universal drive line for a long time. We provide needle rollers for universal joints and tripod joints, and steel balls for ball-cage CV joints (constant-velocity joints). In order to transmit torque and direction reliably, the CV drive shaft and universal cardan shaft must be able to bear continuous vibration and impact during high-speed operation, with low noise and long service life to resist fatigue wear. Consequently, the needles and balls inside the joint must have high quality and performance to meet these strict requirements.

Our matching needles and balls are manufactured with chrome steel 100Cr6/GCr15, through stable heat treatment and precision grinding processes. Quality level is always strictly controlled based on standard DIN 5402-1/3, ISO 3290, or higher requirements. Additionally, JSW manufactures heat-treated needle rollers (diameter as small as 1 mm) and cylindrical rollers with case hardness up to 60 HRC. These components ensure smooth power transmission and extended drivetrain life. The competitive price and good quality have brought us good reputation and trust from all our customers.
